Artist Statement:
This piece reflects a deeply personal journey of finding friendship, comfort, and magic in unexpected places. Moving to a new school was challenging—I didn’t know anyone, and making friends felt impossible. At first, I felt invisible, unsure of where I belonged.
But in my solitude, I turned to books. They became my companions, my confidants, and my gateway to magical worlds where anything was possible. In this artwork, the vibrant colors and patterns represent the endless adventures and stories that books brought into my life.
The swirling shapes in the hair capture the imaginative chaos and joy I experience when I’m lost in a story. The stacks of books surrounding me are not just objects—they’re my friends,
guiding me through every chapter of my journey. Through this painting, I’ve learned that I don’t need to change who I am to fit in. Books taught me that being myself is enough.
They’ve shown me worlds where I can belong, even if people around me don’t always see me. This artwork is my celebration of resilience, self-discovery, and the magical friendships we can find in unexpected places.
